LaPORTE — State police say a two-car crash killed a driver Friday morning on an icy road between Westville and Wanatah.

Matthew Sansom, 21, of LaPorte lost control of his pickup truck while driving northbound on U.S. 421 near 800 South, according to poilce. Sansom's truck crossed the center line into the path of a southbound 2000 Volkswagen Passat, hitting it head-on.

The driver of the Passat was pronounced dead at the scene of massive blunt force trauma. Police say the victim was wearing a seat belt and the car's airbag deployed, but the crash was too severe.

Investigators say both vehicles were totaled in the wreck.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of the family.

Sansom was cited for driving while suspended.
