LAPORTE COUNTY — Deputies with the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department were at the scene of a small plane crash Sunday afternoon in the central part of the county, south of Union Mills.

Two people, including an Eagle Aircraft training school flight instructor and a student, were involved in the crash.

Both refused medical treatment, the sheriff's department said.

The flight originated at the Eagle Aircraft flight school in Valparaiso on Sunday morning, and the instructor and student were bound for a small private airstrip south of Union Mills, according to the sheriff's department.

The plane crashed at its destination site while attempting a maneuver, the department said.

Radio traffic suggested the plane was totaled, officials said.

Eagle Aircraft owners were unavailable for comment Sunday.

LaPorte County EMS, Noble Township Volunteer Fire Department and LaPorte County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash.
