Indiana State Police-Lowell Post are reporting road conditions have deteriorated rapidly on I-80/94 and I-65 in Lake and Porter counties.

Police are asking motorists not to travel overnight unless absolutely necessary.

Snow squalls in conjunction with the high winds have created white-out conditions making visibility difficult in areas.

UPDATE: The lake-effect snow warning has been expanded to include Pulaski and Berrien counties and remains in effect for LaPorte and Starke counties.

At 9:25 p.m., Doppler radar indicates a very intense snow band extended through western LaPorte County into Starke and Pulaski counties. This band has been stationary for the past several hours, and some areas have already received 10-inches of snow. The snow is falling at the rate of 2-inches to 3-inches per hour, according to Rick Mecklenburg, WSBT-TV Meteorologist.

I-94 between Michigan City and Chesterton, as well as the Indiana Toll Road between the Michigan City and Valparaiso exits are experiencing white-out conditions, and there have been numerous reports of slide-offs in these areas.
