Unemployment benefits going up $25 a week in Indiana

Unemployment benefits will go up $25 per week beginning next week, Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Thursday.

The money is coming from the federal stimulus bill and could extend through the end of 2009. That could mean as much as $185 million in Indiana.

Eligible Hoosiers will start seeing the increased benefits when they file vouchers beginning Sunday.

The average weekly benefit for Hoosiers collecting unemployment insurance is $290.
