Census Bureau hiring this week for jobs in Berrien County

NILES — The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking to hire new employees in the Niles area this week.

The Census Bureau will be taking job applications and giving a 30-minute qualification test at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin AME Church, 811 Sycamore St., Niles.

Dozens of census positions are open in Berrien County. The jobs will continue through April 2010.

A pre-test preparation class will be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Participants will have the opportunity to speak to a U.S. Census Bureau recruiter at that event and take a practice test to prepare for Wednesdays official testing.

Positions to be filled include: census takers ($13-14 per hour), recruiters ($15.50 per hour), clerks ($12 per hour) and crew leaders ($14-15 per hour).

Applicants should bring proper identification: a driver’s license, state ID or school ID, plus either a Social Security card or a birth certificate.
