MISHAWAKA — A woman was nearly abducted outside a Grape Road store Tuesday by a man holding a sharp object, possibly a knife, police said.

The incident occurred sometime Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot at Hobby Lobby, near the corner of Grape and Douglas roads.

According to Mishawaka police, the woman was approached by an unidentified man as she entered her car. The man reportedly shoved a sharp object in her side and told her to slide over into the passenger’s seat.

The woman screamed, police said, attracting the attention of a nearby customer, and the man ran off. He jumped into a blue vehicle and fled north.

The man is described as white, 35 to 45 years old, with a slender build and a goatee. He was wearing either a red or burgundy coat.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Mishawaka Detective Bureau at (574) 258-1684.
