MISHAWAKA — The Mishawaka Police Department wants to talk to Michael Lloyd Lindsey, 48, about the abduction of a 19-year-old woman Tuesday.

Assistant Chief Mike Samp called Lindsey a "person of interest" in a news release and said he may have information about the abduction.

Police said a man wielding a knife tried to abduct a woman from parking lots of shopping centers twice Tuesday before succeeding in abducting the 19-year-old South Bend woman from the parking lot of the St. Andrew’s shopping center in the 600 block of Edison Road.

She was released about four hours later in White County, according to police.

According to the Indiana Sheriffs’ Sex and Violent Offender Registry, Lindsey was convicted of three sexual crimes – two rape and one child molesting – in Elkhart County in 1983 and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

According to the Web site, Lindsey was released from prison July 31, 2008.

The news release describes Lindsey as 5 feet 8 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes.

He lives in the 500 block of Logan Street in South Bend, according to the news release.

Anybody with information on where he may be should call the Mishawaka Police Department’s investigation bureau at (574) 258-1684 or the main number at (574) 258-1678.

Police said the woman’s car was found near where she was found, but no one was with the car.
