Driver crashes, vehicle lands in water south of New Paris

A man was rescued from his vehicle that landed in water after crashing early Saturday at County Road 31 north of County Road 50, south of New Paris in Elkhart County.

The man was taken to Goshen General Hospital via Syracuse Ambulance, according to a county emergency services dispatch supervisor. No information is available on his condition.

A passer-by saw the accident and called 911 at 3:50 a.m. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officers also responded to the accident as mutual aid for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

One of Elkhart County’s officers was involved in an accident earlier Saturday at County Road 10 and County Road 17, while en route to another accident scene that was the result of a police pursuit from Edwardsburg.

The officer’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle at that intersection.The officer was not injured, according to the dispatch supervisor. There is no information on the other driver.
