SOUTH BEND — There's a new favorite color at the Michiana Home Show: green.

This year's theme is green building, from energy efficiency to recycled building materials.

"It's a big thing right now," said home show producer Mel Wood.

Wood said everyone is talking green after gas prices skyrocketed this summer.

"$4 a gallon gas has made a big impact on all of us," he said. "We've been reminded how expensive it is and how we all need to consider that in our economy and these kinds of products can save a lot of money."

Wood admits the cost up front is higher, but the long term savings is worth it.

He said most of the vendors are returning from last year with more vendors who offer green products.

"We'll have several builders who are green certified — that's a new category — home builders that are trained to build an entirely green house, or as green as you want to take it, at least," he explained. "And it will be the coming thing — it's going to happen we know that."

Adults cost $7 to get in and kids 12 and under are free. Toyota Michiana is also offering $2 discount tickets.

The show runs Friday night at 5-9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon - 5 p.m.
