PLYMOUTH — For some homeowners, Tuesday night’s heavy rain will add insult to injury as they deal with an already serious situation.

One of those areas is Plymouth, along the Yellow River, which began spilling over its banks earlier this week. Officials expect the river to crest Wednesday at 14-feet 7-inches.

School officials there already issued a 2-hour delay for Wednesday because of the flooding.

Plymouth city officials are working to set up a place where people can go if flooding displaces them from their homes. That hasn’t happened yet, but Plymouth’s Mayor Mark Senter said anything is possible.

April Jaskulski and Jamie Hester just moved into their home with a view of the Yellow River. Tuesday, they learned they may be too close ... and helpless to do much about it. They “watch and wait, basically.”

Flooding’s a problem in Plymouth, one the mayor says they've seen before.

“Every three or four years there's a flood and every 20 years there's a bad flood," Senter said. “Last year was the bad one. The Yellow River crested above 15 feet,” putting many homes and businesses underwater.

This time, Senter said, “I got guys out there filling sandbags right now. Who knows what we're going to get tonight. It's just a matter of hoping and praying for the best.”
