SOUTH BEND — Two Tarkington Traditional School students suffered minor cuts to their hands Tuesday morning when an airborne deer shattered windows of the school bus they were riding in.

St. Joseph County police Sgt. Bill Redman said the deer ran in front of a northbound car about 7:45 a.m. on Ironwood Drive at Burton Drive, south of the Auten Road intersection. He said the car hit the deer and knocked it into the air, where it hit the windows of the southbound school bus.

Police said the two injured students were treated at the scene and released to their parents.
