Police arrested more than 40 people at a St. Patrick's Day party that got out of control.

Officers arrived at the Lafayette Square Apartments after receiving a complaint around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

When St. Joseph County police arrived, there were about 500 people in the driveway between two of the apartments, say police. Broken glass and litter were strewn throughout the parking lot.

Police say many of the partygoers ran.

County and state police cited 47 people for underage drinking.

They arrested another person for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, intimidation, and resisting arrest.
