ST. JOSEPH — Berrien County prosecutors filed murder charges against Edward Wawask Depoy on Tuesday for the shooting death of a Bertrand Township man.

Depoy, 33, reportedly worked for the victim, Richard Marbeiter.

Marbeiter’s family reported him missing in January.

His partially decomposed body was found on his farm, at 5410 Galien-Buchanan Road in Bertrand Township.

Marbeiter, 56, had been shot in the back of the head. prosecutors say.

Depoy had worked for Marbeiter’s landscaping business in October of 2008.

After Marbeiter was killed, Depoy sold some of Marbeiter’s landscaping equipment, police said, tipping off the investigation into Marbeiter’s disappearance.

Depoy is being held in prison on a parole violation.
