Some residents of a senior assisted living facility in Bridgman were evacuated Sunday morning after a fire broke out in one of the residential homes.

Emergency dispatch for the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department said the fire, reported about 7:30 a.m., was located at 8850 Red Arrow Highway.

That’s the location of Woodland Terrace, a senior facility near the intersection of Lemon Creek Road.

Staff at Woodland told SBT24/7 News the fire was relatively small and contained inside a trash can kept in a housekeeping closet. Smoking is not allowed in the facility.

Some residents had to be evacuated as a precaution because of the smoke exposure, but are now all back insider their rooms. There were no injuries.
