Authorities say a woman was shot in the hand early Sunday in Berrien County, but few details surrounding the incident were released pending a thorough investigation.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department said they received a call about 2:35 a.m. after the gunshot wound happened at a home in the 8300 block of West 48th Avenue, west of Rush Lake and right near the Berrien County line.

The call was actually in Berrien County, emergency dispatch said, and the case was turned over to their Sheriff’s Department.

There was no immediate word on how the injury happened. Berrien County officials said they expect more information to be released later Sunday.

The woman’s injuries were not expected to be life-threatening.
