PAW PAW — Van Buren County deputies searched for the driver and a passenger of a vehicle involved in an injury accident early Sunday morning in Keeler Township.

Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident at about 1:24 a.m. Sunday in the 78000 block of 60th Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found an unoccupied and severely damaged 1994 silver Cadillac with large amounts of blood on the exterior and interior of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's department.

Fire personnel and sheriff's deputies located two injured female passengers at the intersection of 60th Street and 77th Avenue.

One of the passengers, a 22-year-old woman from the South Haven, Mich. area, received numerous lacerations, abrasions and impact trauma, officials said.

Her name is not being released due to charges being sought.

Another passenger, a 21-year-old woman also from the South Haven area, received treatment on-scene for a leg injury and minor abrasions. The woman wished to remain anonymous.

Sister Lakes EMS treated both victims on-site before transporting them to Watervliet Community Hospital for further treatment.

Deputies and the K-9 unit searched the surrounding area early Sunday morning for the injured 25-year-old male driver and a 27-year-old male passenger, who both fled the scene of the accident.

Blood traces were found during the K-9 track, but officials said they were unsuccessful in their efforts.

The incident remains under investigation.
