GRANGER — Jay Eades kept a $100,000 secret … at least for the five days until his wife Brooke’s birthday arrived on Monday.

Eades bought a winning Hoosier Lottery “Golden Palace” scratch-off ticket worth $100,000 on April 15 at Granger 66 & Subway on State Road 23.

"After the kids (ages 17, 7 and 2) had given her their gifts I said, 'I have another surprise for you' and showed her the ticket," said Eades, as quoted in a Hoosier Lottery news release.

"I was most excited when she finally saw it. It didn't fully hit me until then," said Eades. "Then, I felt great and I realized this is going to be a lot of fun."

The family has plans for the money which includes helping their oldest son, a high school senior, pay for his education at Purdue University next year.

"We'll also stick a little bit away," said Eades. "We're going to have some fun for sure."
