Fires in two Indiana lakeside communities destroyed and damaged homes this weekend, with some reporting a total loss.

In Kosciusko County, four fire departments battled a Friday afternoon fire in the 4200 block of North Sullivan Road, according to 911 dispatch.

That’s on the northeast side of Sechrist Lake. The 1:56 p.m. call was reported as a cottage on fire, authorities said.

North Webster, Pierceton, Leesburg and Syracuse firefighters worked to keep the flames from spreading beyond the adjacent structures.

There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.

But crews in Steuben County had an even tougher battle early Saturday.

Five houses near Angola were destroyed and five others damaged by fire at Lake James, near northeastern Indiana's Pokagon State Park.

Firefighters from three counties fought the blaze, and the state fire marshal has begun an investigation of the cause.

Authorities say the Lake James fire started at one house and spread to others nearby, causing damages estimated from $6 million to $8 million.

Besides a cat that died in the fire, there were no other injuries reported.
