Suspect arrested in Kosciusko County car, home break-ins

By WSBT News1

WARSAW – The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Milford man Wednesday who allegedly broke into more than 100 vehicles in the county.

According to a department news release, Johnny Lee Leer, 20, of Milford, was arrested on a Class B felony warrant for burglary and is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.

At 12:46 a.m. May 1, according to the release, deputies responded to a residential burglary in the Camelot Lake area of Milford.

Officers had found that a suspect had entered an unlocked vehicle, obtained keys and gone into the residence. The homeowner awoke and confronted the suspect, giving chase but ultimately lost contact with him.

Milford police later were able to provide Kosciusko County officers with a person who matched the homeowner’s description of the suspect.

Leer was interviewed by the officers and confessed to the burglary incident and other vehicle break-ins, according to the release.

The release stated that Leer said he and others, who he identified to police, entered unlocked vehicles in Milford, Syracuse, Wawasee Lake, Warsaw and Winona Lake, as well as some residences where keys were left in the vehicles.

Charges have been filed with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office for the remaining three suspects.
