There's a new beginning for a Mishawaka family, now that Antoinette Carter and her family have received the keys to their new home, courtesy of Habitat for Humanity.

Students from P-H-M, Mishawaka, and South Bend, together with corporate sponsors, spent several months building this house.

Organizers say that combination is what made this build a little unusual.

“These kids can be very intensely competitive on the football field and the basketball court, but then they come out here for a Habitat build and they’re working together, and you can see the energy and the excitement,” said Jim Williams of Habitat.

“They really enjoy helping somebody.”

Josh Olsen, a student at John Adams High School, said he felt thankful to be able to help out.

“It’s just really, really a great feeling,” Olsen said.

Before they handed over the keys, organizers blessed the house, praying over each room and the Carter family.
