ELKHART — An Elkhart student discovered another reason to always go to school. Memorial High School freshman Brittany Ellsworth won a car Tuesday because of her attendance record.

One hundred fifty-three students had perfect or almost perfect attendance. The school held a special drawing for prizes that included money, gift certificates and a car.

Brittany didn't know what to say when she won the 2002 Dodge Stratus, provided by Lochmandy Motors.

“I don't know, like a whole bunch of stuff, I was really excited, just, I don't know! I don't know!” an excited Ellsworth told WSBT News. “I just thought I would win it, told my friends I would probably win it, and I guess I did! I just want to get my permit and then start driving!”

Brittany says it will be at least a year before she gets her learner's permit. Until then, she says her older brother will get to chauffeur her around in her new car.
