NILES — The driver hurt in a three-vehicle crash in front of the Wal-Mart on South 11th Street Tuesday has been identified as Kari Diane Hatch, 38, of Niles.

Initially reported to be in critical condition at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Hatch has been upgraded to stable, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Police said Hatch was driving a Honda Pilot shortly before 4:30 p.m. when she tried to make a left turn onto South 11th from the Wal-Mart parking lot and her auto was struck by a southbound truck. The impact propelled Hatch’s vehicle into a parked semitruck, officers said.

No other motorists were injured in the crash, according to police.
