OSECOLA — It was early, but not too early for hundreds of families Monday morning to pack up children and head with lawn chairs to the annual Osceola Memorial Day parade.

At promptly 8 a.m., firetrucks and floats started down the parade route to the delight of wide-eyed children lining Lincoln Way West.

By 8:30, most of the children were happily eating candy thrown by float participants and heading back home with their parents.

Some, however, were traveling just a few minutes away to Mishawaka, where another parade was preparing to begin.

The annual Mishawaka Memorial Day parade started ff at 9:30 a.m., a large event that drew throngs of residents and families near the intersection of Main Street and Mishawaka Avenue.
