Some unexpected Memorial Day memorabilia kept the Berrien County bomb squad busy near Cassopolis Monday.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department was called around noon to pick up some World War II relics located at a home on Michigan 62. When police arrived, they found two live rocket-type mortar shells.

Berrien County’s team was notified to assist with the removal of the artillery, police said in a press release.

The shells were taken to a secluded location and detonated.

No one was injured during the episode.
