A vandalism report on South Bend’s northeast side ended up in a short police chase and the discovery of a burglary case that police say may be related.

South Bend officers were investigating any connection between the two after they were called to the 900 block of East Sorin Street about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday because someone was vandalizing a vehicle.

Police found a white male who took off when they arrived, city 911 dispatch said. Officers searched the area near Bissell and Arthur streets but had no luck in finding the suspect, who was also described as tall, about 6 feet 1 inch, and shirtless.

A few minutes later, South Bend officers were sent to a nearby address after reports of a burglary in the 700 block of St. Francis Street, dispatch said.

Items taken included a laptop computer and speakers, according to initial reports.

Police continue to investigate any links between the cases.
