SOUTH BEND — A former Penn High School coach will spend 60 days in jail for her inappropriate relationship with a teenage softball player.

Brooke M. Biggs, 27, was sentenced Wednesday to 24 months in jail for sexual misconduct with a minor and 12 months for violating a no-contact order. Both terms were suspended on the condition that she serve 60 days in the St. Joseph County Jail. Biggs also was put on probation for three years starting Wednesday, with strict orders not to again contact her victim.

Biggs pleaded guilty in May to a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor for having improper contact with a female student, also a softball player at Penn.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed two felony charges of child seduction and withdrew a petition to revoke Biggs’ jail bond after she met with the 16-year-old girl in late March, violating a protective order.

Both Biggs and the victim’s mother gave tearful statements to the judge during the sentencing hearing.
