Elkhart County authorities pulled over a driver early Monday, and that's when police found a meth lab in the vehicle — the second they discovered in just a few hours.

The county emergency communications center said the vehicle was stopped at the entrance to 20 East Apartments in the 2100 block of Toledo Road, on the far eastern edge of Elkhart.

The mobile lab was discovered at 1:43 a.m., dispatch said. Initial reports indicated steaming from one of the containers in the vehicle, and Elkhart firefighters were on standby in case of a fire or explosion.

That was while they waited about an hour for the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Unit to arrive — because the meth team was already committed at another scene.

Police at ISP's Bremen Post said that first meth lab was located in the 27800 block of County Road 10. Elkhart County authorities confirmed the location and said they were initially called there at 7:39 p.m. Sunday.

The meth cleanup teams had been at the first location since about 11 p.m., they added.

There was no immediate word on any arrests in either case.

No evacuations had been reported as a result of the incidents.
