Elkhart County authorities discovered two meth labs overnight within hours of each other, according to police reports.

Police at ISP's Bremen Post said that the first meth lab was found in the 27800 block of County Road 10. Elkhart County authorities confirmed the location and said they were initially called there at 7:39 p.m. Sunday.

Another was found at 1:43 a.m. Monday after a vehicle was pulled over for an improper muffler at the entrance to 20 East Apartments in the 2100 block of Toledo Road, and police found several meth labs within the car.

Initial reports indicated steaming from one of the containers in the vehicle, and Elkhart firefighters were on standby in case of a fire or explosion.

The meth cleanup teams had been at the first location since about 11 p.m., they added.

The 22-year-old driver of the car was arrested on felony charges for making methamphetamine, possession of the drug and possession of a controlled substance, according to police reports.

Authorities also found a .45-caliber loaded handgun in the vehicle, and the driver was also charged with misdemeanor possession of a handgun without a permit.
