Undercover officers will be in various stores that sell alcohol as part of Cass County’s effort to squash illegal sales to minors.

Law enforcement agencies from throughout the county are taking part in the ‘Cops In Shops’ program, sponsored by the nonprofit Century Council. That group promotes undercover officers being in locations where alcohol is sold to deter minors from buying and adults from buying for minors.

Teaching store employees how to spot possible underage buyers is part of the undercover officers’ work.

Wages for officers taking part in the program will be reimbursed through a Project Safe Communities Grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Retailers who want to take part in the program, call Capt. Lyndon Parrish at the Cass County Sheriff’s Department at (269) 445-1204.
