Here is some recent information about storms and power outages:

Weather

The entire area is under a Tornado Watch until 3:00AM EDT.

Another round of severe weather is still expected to move in this evening. After a little sunshine this afternoon, temperatures soared into the upper 80s. And along with high dewpoints the air is still unstable, which will help in the development of the storms again this evening. We'll be monitoring these storms for hail, dangerous winds and, of course, heavy rain. A flash flood watch is still in effect due to the high amounts of water we've already seen, and the high amounts we could still get with these additional storms.

It will be much cooler over the weekend after a strong front moves through late Friday. The highs Saturday will be in the 70s and near 80 on Sunday.

Power outages

Area residents can expect service delays as power is restored, slowly, but surely, per I& M officials.

At the height of Thursday night into Friday morning's storms, power was leveled to an estimated 21, 000 customers.

As late as 5:00 p.m. Friday, 10,000 customers were without service, officials announced.

The threat of more severe weather may increase those numbers for Friday night, officials said.

National Weather Service forecasters predict severe conditions to continue until 3 a.m. Saturday — cutting a broad swath from La Porte County, east to La Grange County.

Elkhart, Kosciusko, St. Joseph, Marshall, Noble and Pulaski Counties are included in the areas.

Area emergency response departments had numerous reports of trees and limbs down Friday morning, some blocking roads and streets. Trees brought down power lines, causing numerous reports of trees catching fire from sparking lines.
