Largely due to the recent bankruptcy of Chrysler, Kokomo now has the highest unemployment rate in Indiana — at 19.5 percent.

That area also has the highest county jobless rate at 19.3 percent.

Now here's a look at our area:

Elkhart County still ranks number two in the state, with 17.5 percent. But that's down from last month's 17.7 percent.

LaGrange County dipped to number four in the state, falling a full percent from April.

Most of our counties did see an increase from last month, especially in Pulaski County. Their rate jumped 1.2 percent, the highest in our area.

Statewide, the unemployment rate grew to 10.4 percent. That's nearly double from this time last year.
