Electric crews from Fort Wayne and Muncie are now helping local I&M crews working to restore service to customers in southern lower Michigan and northwest Indiana.

With the first wave of storms that smashed into Michiana on Friday, thousands of customers lost power.

The second wave of storms that rolled through Indiana Michigan Power company's service territory cut electricity to an additional 3,000 customers, according to David Mayne, I&M spokesman.

As of 5:45 a.m. Saturday, I&M indicates approximately 10,000 customers are without electric service.

  • Benton Harbor area (Includes St. Joseph, Stevensville, Bridgman and Coloma) — 6,400 customers

  • Buchanan area (Includes Berrien Springs, Niles and Galien) — 70

  • Elkhart — 80

  • South Bend area (Includes New Carlisle, Lakeville, Granger and Mishawaka) — 800

  • Three Rivers area (Cassopolis, Constantine, Decatur, Edwardsburg, Paw Paw, Schoolcraft and Sister Lakes) — 2,700
