By WSBT 24/7 News

A head-on collision early Saturday sent a Mishawaka police officer to the hospital with multiple injuries.

The city’s 911 emergency dispatch center was notified of the accident at 12:58 a.m. after the officer and another driver crashed near the intersection of Bremen Highway and Ireland Road, not far from the Meijer store.

The officer was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, authorities said. They tell SBT24/7 News that the 56-year-old officer, whose name has not been publicly released, suffered rib, knee and other injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle was not taken for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation with the police and prosecutor’s office, they said.
