A search for two people briefly missing on the Paw Paw River ended without incident late Sunday, according to Van Buren County dispatch.

The two were reported missing from a campground near Hartford, Mich., about 10:15 p.m. when they failed to return from their canoe outing.

Turns out, they were stuck on the river and trapped by a log submerged in the water.

Emergency crews went out to look for them — but fortunately, a water rescue wasn’t really necessary.

The paddlers were found safely about an hour later, and they were able to free themselves and return back to shore, dispatch said.
