SOUTH BEND — A Niles woman was hospitalized Monday evening after she was attacked outside a home on the city’s north side, police said.

South Bend police were dispatched to the 700 block of West Laurelwood Court about 6:25 p.m. for a report of an assault.

Outside, officers reportedly found a 22-year-old woman with a swollen left eye and a piece of her left ear missing.

The victim told police she was sitting outside when an unidentified woman approached from behind. The two exchanged words, the victim said, and then the woman punched her and struck her with a bottle.

A person who witnessed the incident was reportedly uncooperative.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
