A 3-year-old Wakarusa girl is the second person to drown Saturday in a LaGrange County lake.

Kennedy Stansbury had been swimming in Cass Lake with family and friends, but she was last seen near the water about 5:30 p.m.

Kennedy was found in approximately 4-feet of water at the end of a pier, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Rodney Clear.

CPR was performed and the child was taken to Parkview LaGrange Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:31 p.m. An autopsy revealed the child died from asphyxiation from drowning.

Cass Lake is in northwest LaGrange County, northwest of Shipshewana.

About 30 minutes earlier at Dallas Lake in south-central LaGrange County, a 41-year-old Wolcottville woman drowned after trying to retrieve a Frisbee from deeper water. Kelly Smith had been playing Frisbee with the family dog on a sandbar.
