ARGOS — The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a two-story farmhouse near the intersection of 18th and Hickory roads in Argos earlier this week.

Argos Fire Chief Mark Dean said when firefighters arrived Monday morning, the unoccupied home was fully engulfed. Firefighters from Rochester and Tippencanoe helped at the scene, but the house could not be saved.

Dean said there was no electric service and no one living in the home owned by Frank Harrell.

Dean said the cause of the fire appeared to be suspicious. Firefighters remained on the scene for nine hours. The cause remains under investigation.
