South Bend’s Section 8 housing wait list opens soon

For four days — July 20 through July 24 — the Housing Authority of South Bend will accept mailed applications for the Section 8 waiting list.

Section 8 Rental Assistance Program is geared to help eligible low- and moderate-income families pay their rent. Renters accepted into the program pay approximately 30 percent of their adjusted gross income to landlords.

Applications and pre-paid envelopes will be available at numerous locations throughout South Bend:

  • Boys & Girls Club, 502 E. Sample St.

  • La Casa de Amistad Youth Center, 746 S. Meade St.

  • Martin Luther King Center, 1522 W. Linden Ave.

  • Colfax Cultural Center, 914 Lincolnway West

  • Libraries: Main library branch, 304 S. Main St. and Western branch, 611 S. Lombardy Drive

  • Robinson Learning Center, 921 Eddy St.

  • Charles Black Center, 3419 W. Washington St.

  • Health and Vital Records office, 8th floor, County-City Building, downtown

  • Center for the Homeless, 813 S. Michigan St.

  • Hope Ministries, 532 S. Michigan St.

  • St. Joseph County WIC offices, 325 Lafayette St.

    Applications can also be downloaded from www.hasbonline.com

    Only mailed applications will be accepted and no applications are available at the Housing Authority office.
