Rape and murder suspect captured in St. Joseph County

St. Joseph County police arrested a man Friday who is suspected in a 1993 rape and murder.

Allegan County police say 45-year-old Van Buren Hutchison raped and murdered 28-year-old Jeanette Reeves.

Her body was found in the Kalamazoo River. Police say her partially nude body was found in a remote area and her wrists were bound.

She was reported missing from the Chicago area in 1992.

The Grand Rapids Press reports authorities recently reopened the investigation into Jeanette Reeves' death and asked for help finding Hutchison. WOOD-TV reports tips from the public led to his arrest.
