Mishawaka Police send curfew message to parents, teens

Time is of the essence for Mishawaka teens — especially in terms of curfews enforced by city police.

Stressing safety, Mishawaka Police Lt. Timothy Williams, D.A.R.E./Child Safety officer, issued a curfew update Friday for parents and teens.

“Officers are willing to work with parents to help their teenage children understand there is a curfew ordinance in the City of Mishawaka and that curfew will be enforced by our officers,” Williams said, via a news release.

  • Ages: 16 and 17

  • It's a curfew violation if you're in public places:

    Between 1 and 5 a.m. Saturdays or Sundays; after 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays; before 5 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.

  • Ages: 15 and younger

  • It's a curfew violation if you're in public between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sundays through Saturdays.

  • Penalties:

    Parents or guardians are subject to $25 fine for first offense; $100 for second offense if it's within a year of the first offense; and $200 for third and each subsequent violation within a year. Court costs are in addition to fines.
