Woman in her 70s fatally shot in Van Buren County

By WSBT News1

PORTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say a woman in her late 70s has been shot and killed in a southwestern Michigan home by a family member.

WOOD-TV reports Rose Harris of Marcellus was shot with a rifle Thursday afternoon. Emergency personnel tried to revive her, but were unsuccessful.

Police say the suspect made the call to 911.

WWMT-TV reports the suspect will be charged with open murder and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in district court.

They haven't released a motive, but say there was tension between Harris and her killer; and that her murder was likely the result of an argument.

State police Detective Sgt. Mike Spring tells the Kalamazoo Gazette the home is just south of Lawton in Van Buren County.
