An inmate was found dead in the LaGrange County Jail Thursday night, apparently after committing suicide in his cell, according to officials.

Police say an unresponsive Roger D. Fulks, 37, of rural Shipshewana was discovered at 11:14. Emergency medical services attempted to resuscitate the inmate, but were unsuccessful.

Police say Fulks was being held for failing to appear in court after being charged for driving while suspended. He was also held for St. Joseph County, Michigan authorities on a probation violation for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The exact cause of death has not been released, and the case is still under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
