SOUTH BEND — Thousands of customers were in the dark in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties Sunday morning.

According to Indiana Michigan Power’s website, 1,088 customers lost power in St. Joseph County and 3, 376 Elkhart County customers were without power.

An animal got into the equipment at a substation in Elkhart County, causing the outage, according to Indiana Michigan Power officials.

Power was restored by 11:30 a.m.
