GOSHEN — Goshen-based Dutchmen RV announced Wednesday it is hiring 50 new employees to fill new manufacturing positions.

After layoffs over the last year in a recession that devastated the industry, company executives said they’ve recently made “internal structural changes to support additional job growth” within the company.

President Don Clark said the company has streamlined its portfolio of brands, reducing the number from more than 20 down to eight in an effort to focus on quality and efficiency.

“It enable us to actually grow in volume,” said Clark. “Our business plan, frankly, is not to deal with niche markets anymore and (instead) focus on the mainstream.”

Dutchmen will introduce some of its redesigned products at the upcoming Pennsylvania RV Show next month.

“We believe the fall (season) will be difficult for our industry, but we believe the 2010 calendar year will be a rebuilding time for our industry and especially for our company,” said Clark. “We want to be able to support our dealers in a timely fashion.”

Earlier this summer, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association forecast a 24 percent increase in shipments for 2010.

Applications for the new jobs will be available at Workforce One in Elkhart.
