ELKHART COUNTY ― Officials may bring in hundreds of new jobs by giving two companies tax breaks for investing in the county.

The Elkhart County Council is considering a 10-year tax abatement for a new Nevada-based company, Energy Inc. The business plans to invest about $98 million in a Middlebury plant that will manufacture thermal energy technology. It would create at least 200 jobs, with an average worker salary of $41,000 - $45,000.

The second abatement is for an existing Elkhart County business. Truck Accessories Group wants to expand its current facilities to develop new products in new markets. They plan to invest more than $1 million, and create about 60 new jobs at its plant on the southwest side of Elkhart.

The council will vote on both tax abatements Monday at 3:30 p.m. Mike Yoder, a council member, said both abatements are highly likely to pass, as they meet the county's economic development goals.
