Paw Paw man critically injured when motorcycle, semi collide

A motorcycle collided with a semi just before 6 p.m. Saturday on I-94 at County Road 365 in Lawrence Township.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department received multiple calls reporting the accident which injured David Smith, 51, of Paw Paw. He was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where he is listed in critical condition as of 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Smith was driving his motorcycle eastbound on I-94 at the Lawrence exit when he struck the side of the semi. He was thrown from the motorcycle.

The semi driver, Melton Crudup, 50, of Ypsilanti, was not injured.

The sheriff's department is continuing its investigation into the accident.
