MISHAWAKA — One day after the Cavemen football team made history, the big win is still the talk of the town. Mishawaka finally beat the Penn Kingsmen after a 28-year drought.

The breakfast crowd at Macadoo's was enjoying some great food Saturday, and the sweet taste of victory.

"Oh it just felt great it was so long in coming ya know," said John Konrath, a Mishawaka fan.

"I said, 'listen they had to have won.' You could hear it outside. We heard the cheering," said fan Beth Konrath.

The newspaper box outside Macadoo's was virtually empty. People snatched them up to read about the Cavemen on the front page.

"The first thing they wanted was the paper to see what the score was," said Kathy McDonald, Macadoo's owner.

The score was 26 to 10, and the game ended with the kind of finish that the thousands of people on hand won't soon forget.

"When you're in the melee out there, it's not as good as stepping back and watching people have a great time," said Mishawaka coach Bart Curtis.

"It was kind of like in the movies how you see the underdog rise up against 28 years. That is a long time," said Mishawaka High School junior Sinnika Roinila.

And if Friday night was the time to bask in the glory of the win, Saturday was time to get back to practicing.

"If you take the cheese, disaster lies ahead. If you listen, if you read your press clippings and let people tell you how great you are, you're setting yourself up for a big fall. We will not let that happen," Curtis said.

Next Friday, the Cavemen will face South Bend Clay.
