Creosote buildup causes South Bend chimney fire

No one was injured after heat from a fire in a wood burning stove caused creosote in the chimney to ignite at a South Bend house Thursday night, according to a fire department report.

Fire crews were called to a two-story, two-family dwelling in the 900 block of West Washington Street at 6:11 p.m.

The fire, confined to the chimney, caused an estimated $2,500 damage.
