ELKHART COUNTY — A fire in a shopping center is now under control. The fire broke about 5 p.m. Saturday in the area of Simonton Lake and State Road 19. Witnesses said flames and smoke could be seen for miles.

Midwest Resale Shop, Lazer Computer Store and The Tobacco Mart were all damaged by the fire.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started. They say that may take a couple of days.

The owner of the Lazer Computer Store says everything was fine when he closed at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. He did say this was the third fire in the shopping center in the 15 years he's been in business.

Efforts to fight the fire were hampered because firefighters had to truck in water on tanker trucks because there are no hydrants in the area.
