A woman and her three children were seriously injured in a collision while turning into a Westville pumpkin farm.

Just before noon Sunday, Jamie Arendt, 32, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Robert Walters, 38, of Chicago, according to LaPorte County police.

They stopped to make a left turn into Coulter Farms on U.S. 421 in Westville when they were rear-ended by a southbound pickup truck driven by Richard Logan.

Logan, 50, of Westville, told investigators he took his eye off the road momentarily, causing the rear-end collision.

Police said Arendt and three others in her vehicle were extricated.

Arendt was unconscious when airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, then later woke up and was responsive, police said.

Her injuries were believed not to be life-threatening.

Police said her children, ages 4, 9 and 11, suffered injuries varying from possibly damaged teeth to fractures and pain to various parts of the body.

Both drivers suffered only minor injuries, said police.
